RFID Journal LIVE! a Success Highlighting Our RFID Printers, the Pharmaceutical Supply Chain, and Walmart’s RFID Initiative
Our team was excited to join the RFID Journal LIVE! 2022 event in person, the world’s largest exhibition and conference for RFID and IoT products and services, which took place May 17-19 at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.
Returning to in person events has proven valuable to connect and share best practices with others in the industry. "It was great to re-connect with the RFID community in Las Vegas," said Andy Edwards, TSC Printronix Auto ID Director of Product Management.
In addition to showcasing our RFID printers and solutions in the exhibit hall, the show had several other notable highlights. At the event, our RFID Subject Matter Expert Chris Brown presented on a panel of experts about RFID to improve pharmaceutical supply chain efficiency. The industry has seen massive improvements when it comes to pharmaceutical product traceability, while the opportunities for using track and trace technologies continues to prove RFID’s capabilities.
We showcased our enterprise-grade RFID printer lineup to enthusiastic attendees. Included was our award-winning T6000e mid-range RFID printer with ODV-2D barcode label inspection technology, the T4000 compact RFID printer, the T800 desktop RFID printer, and our new Alpha-40L mobile RFID printer.

RFID in the Pharmaceutical Supply Chain
Chris Brown, our RFID Subject Matter Expert, presented with a panel on how RFID improves pharmaceutical supply chain efficiency and patient safety. While RFID was once rejected a decade ago, it is now beginning to win the industry over. Pharmaceutical product traceability is becoming essential to enhance brand protection and thwart counterfeiting. This saves healthcare providers time and provides precise inventory control throughout medical facilities.
RFID for healthcare and pharmaceutical product tagging was another area that garnered lots of interest at the show, as the industry has experienced challenges with RAIN RFID numbering systems. Three well-defined numbering systems currently in use include the GS1 schemata, RAIN AFI, and the DoseID’s schema, and there are pros and cons of using each. As leaders in RFID, it is our goal to help you better understand the use of different or proprietary, non-standard RAIN RFID numbering systems. You can read more information on this topic here.
Walmart’s RFID Initiative
Walmart has announced their initiative to require all items arrive at Walmart stores with RFID smart labels by September of 2022. In a Forbes article, the retailer stated “Over the last year, we have successfully implemented RFID technology in our Apparel departments and have seen dramatic results. We have improved On Hand Accuracy, which has grown Online Order Fulfillment. These dramatic improvements have had major impacts on Sell Through and customer satisfaction. With the success of this initiative, Walmart plans to continue expanding this program to other departments and categories.”

Stationary RFID Printer Lineup Met by Enthusiastic Attendees
Participants showed interest in the versatility of TSC Printronix Auto ID’s lineup of stationary RFID enterprise-grade printers. Our RFID family of printers includes three stationary printer series, ranging from the affordable and compact T800 Enterprise Desktop Printer, the fast-paced T4000 Enterprise Industrial Printer, and the versatile, award-winning T6000e Enterprise Industrial Series. With such an extensive and well-equipped range of stationary RFID printer options, there is a solution for every business and variety of needs, from low-volume enterprise options to high-volume industrial requirements.
New Alpha-40L RFID Mobile Printer
Attendees were excited about our newly released Alpha-40L Mobile RFID Printer that offers powerful productivity on the go. This lightweight mobile printer can be worn comfortably for a full shift, without interfering with the user's tasks. Capable of working with any mobile label, document, or receipt printing application, your printing needs can be met wherever you are. It was designed to meet military-grade standards for drop and vehicle vibrations and can withstand a 6-foot (1.8 m) drop without added bulk. There is also an optional IP-rated protective case available for additional dust and water resistance that can withstand an 8.2-foot (2.5 m) fall.
By using a USB — or optional Bluetooth®, 802.11 a/b/g/n Wireless, or Serial — to connect to a mobile computer or smartphone, you can print clear, accurate labels. Near Field Communication (NFC) makes it simple to connect to the printer directly from a compatible device with SOTI Connect or TSC Console remote printer management. This allows greater visibility into real-time data on the health and performance of devices.
